Volkswagen claims to be “not afraid” of the threat posed by any Apple Car, and has released this shady teaser that could represent why. The image is a teaser for Project Trinity, an electric sedan that CEO Ralf Brandstätter called “our software dream car.”
Like any pie concept in the sky, of course, it is designed in anticipation of advanced self-management capabilities, long-distance electric drive systems and fast battery charging technologies, but this software bit is where it shows plans. According to VW, the plan is to start production of this car in 2026, as part of the range of vehicles with fewer variants and where everything is standardized.
This means that instead of building multiple versions of the same car with different capabilities, they will build a single version with everything included, but only unlocked “on demand”
According to the CEO, “In the future, the individual configuration of the vehicle will no longer be determined by the hardware at the time of purchase. Instead, customers will be able to add features on demand at any time through the in-car digital ecosystem.”
