Waffle House Customers Assist Seated Employees By Washing Dishes, Receiving Orders



When the Waffle House restaurant was staffed, late-night customers graciously took orders and bus tables.

The unique scene in Birmingham, Alabama, was filmed on November 2 by patron Ethan Crispo, who had stopped at the restaurant around 12:30 to order breakfast. "It was incredible to witness," Crispo tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

The restaurant was busy that night with about 25 customers – and only one employee named Ben, whom Crispo said was speechless and cluttered. "He was just looking at a room full of people. I can't imagine what she was thinking. ”

According to Crispo, a man wearing a blue shirt who was sitting at the bar spoke briefly to Ben and slipped into an apron in seconds. "He started washing dishes," Crispo tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

While ordering his order with Ben, Crispo asked, "Where is your help tonight?" And Ben replied that his staff had not appeared. He added that the man in the blue shirt was a paying customer.

Ten minutes later, as Ben was cooking in the kitchen, a female client, wearing a strapless dress and a pair of heels, stood up and began to give tables, ordering and making coffee, patiently deciphering a restaurant-style coffee maker. . "When the woman came to my table, she said she was with friends that night," Crispo says.

And Crispo says that a third customer eventually got up from his meal to get up.

Pat Warner, Director of PR and Foreign Affairs at Waffle House, tells Yahoo Lifestyle, "We had two contributors who had to leave, but due to a combination of communication, their relief did not come quickly. Some customers came behind the counter to help an associate who cooks and serves food. Customers had tables, and one put on an apron and washed the dishes. He did great.

Warner added: "We value customer efforts, but prefer to have our associates behind the counter. Our concept works best when we serve the customer, not the other way around. "

Crispo said the helpful customers were in a good mood, singing and tuning as they walked the restaurant. "There was a real sense of community," he explains.

And when Crispo asked Ben why he hadn't jumped ship when he was stranded, Ben replied, "This is not the right thing to do."
