Days after Walmart announced it would keep stores closed on Turkey Day, Best Buy followed suit Tuesday and confirmed to USA TODAY that its stores will also close on November 25th. Target started closing holiday stores back in January when it said the stores were winning “does not open on the holiday, which is traditionally a huge shopping day in connection with Black Friday.
This is the second year in a row that the three major retailers have closed Thanksgiving, a trend that has begun to reduce crowds amid the coronavirus pandemic and boost more online sales.

“This year we will have even more ways for customers to make their holiday shopping easy and convenient during Black Friday weekend and throughout the holiday season,” Best Buy spokesman Keegan Schutz told USA TODAY.

This influx of costs gave the name of Black Friday, as at the time of year when traders were “on the black”. For nearly a decade, this official start has crept closer and closer to Thanksgiving, eating away at the time people have spent around the holiday table.
With few exceptions, almost every major retailer remained closed on Thanksgiving 2020, reversing the earlier start of Black Friday. CVS, Walgreens, some grocery stores and convenience stores were among the open companies.
Traditionally, some retailers remain closed on the holiday, including Apple, Costco and Sam’s Club, and Home Depot and Lowe’s home furnishings. (See the full list of stores that were closed on Thanksgiving 2020 here.)
Still, the pandemic has forced retailers to turn Black Friday from a short sale into a one-month series of smaller sales that began in early November as a way to encourage shoppers to win and spread demand.
Black Friday itself is “the quietest in 20 years” as real-life traffic collapses due to fears of a coronavirus pandemic, according to a Coresight Research report that tracks retail data.
However, online sales rose during the traditional shopping or holiday period and on Cyber Monday.
