According to a new interview with Rolling Stone, head of Marvel Studios Kevin Fage revealed that the cameo would be Benedict CumberbatchDr. Strange. And Fage also explained why Sorcerer Supreme was written off from the tumultuous Disney + series.
WandaVision was a hot bed of fan theories and speculation throughout its short but vivid nine episodes. Who was behind this strange city indulging in sitcoms? Who is Agatha Harkness? Is anyone really Mephisto? And what about those mysterious fictional ads?
Many of these questions went unanswered or debunked, but one of these strange hanging threads was answered: these ads were actually meant to add to Doctor Strange’s appearance. Feige confirmed to Rolling Stone in the May 2021 issue of the magazine that the sinister advertisements for fictional products such as Toast Mate, Strücker Watch and Hydra Soak are more than just subconscious reminders of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) past – they were originally intended to be messages sent to Wanda by Dr. Strange, as he also tried to break through her sitcom fabrication. (The article isn’t online yet, but we went to the store and physically confirmed that these offers were real.) According to Rolling Stone, Marvel had even finalized a deal with Cumberbatch to appear in the final episode of the season. But in a late-stage rewrite, the Supreme Wizard was discharged, Feig said:
“Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would be so cool to see Dr. Strange.’ But that would take Wanda away. We didn’t want the end of the show to be codified to move on to the next film – here’s the white man: “Let me show you how power works.”
The WandaVision The finale was divisive, especially because it felt like rushing to the finish line to properly deal with Wanda’s grief and to determine the impact of Wanda’s actions through the MCU. The final has already planted the seeds for Captain Marvel continued Miracles with Monica Rambo (Theona Paris) newly discovered powers, and Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness with Wanda’s embrace of her “Scarlet Witch” identity. There was widespread speculation about this WandaVision will contain binding to Dr. Strange sequel, so why not enter a Cumberbatch to seal the deal?
But the finale was already cluttered enough as it is, and Dr. Strange Cameo would do even more, while taking up Wanda’s precious little time that we actually got. Interestingly, this also means this Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness it also had to be rewritten. Although this does not confirm speculation that WandaVision the team fiercely rewrites the series in response to fan theories, he gives a brief look at the entire Marvel writing process, which Fage describes to Rolling Stone as “[A] a wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination and chaos. The magic of chaos. “
You can see Scarlet Witch and Sorcerer Supreme come together for real Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness, in theaters March 25, 2022
