The Buffalo Bills secured their first egg of the 2020 season on Tuesday with a 42-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
It was a sinister start from Buffalo with a pass from Josh Allen deflected by Andre Roberts and intercepted by Malcolm Butler to open the game. The wayward throw resulted in a touchdown for the Titans and Buffalo was in return mode outside the bat.
It was Alan’s worst game of the season.
“We have to be better and that starts with me,”
Allen completed a 26-of-41 pass for 263 yards, 6.4 yards of experience, two TD passes and two INTs for 77.6 minus. He noted seasonal levels in passing yards, passing yards of experience and assessment of passers-by.
After throwing an interception in the first four games, Allen threw his first multi-INT game after losing week 4, 2019 against the Patriots. Alan had five games with several rookie selections during his season. He has only had three since then.
Many will use Allen’s main debut to justify their previous position that the heavily armed QB is rubbish. Such preconceived notions would ignore the professional’s outstanding third-year play in the first month of the season and remain blind to Alan’s undisputed strides this year with touching passes and deep-ball accuracy. A game doesn’t make a season or a career.
Every quarterback in NFL history has had bad days like Alan, who survived Tuesday. From greats like Tom Brady and Joe Montana to thoughts after John Skelton and Brian St. Pierre, every single QB has had hard days in the office. That’s life. Even you, a good reader, have not performed at the HOF level every day of your career. Nor should we expect.
The key is how Alan bounces. The greats sink into one game and become a one-year ascending strip to fame. The good players continue to drag an amusement park of ups and downs that will determine their careers. The mediocre ones are directed to the bottom of the pit.
He wasn’t the only one like Alan to play an unusually poor Tuesday. The defense could not stop in the red zone and Sean McDermott’s team executed penalty after penalty in a careless affair.
