For those of us who can not climb the trend of keto because it is restrictive, there is another option: lazy keto.

A traditional keto diet forces the body to enter into ketosis, a metabolic state that uses fat for energy instead of glucose (carbohydrates). In order to get into ketosis, diets should eat less than 50 grams of carbs a day for several days, while maintaining a high fat diet.

Late keto is a more flexible diet trend and focuses only on low carbohydrate. Generally, lazy keto followers limit the intake of carbohydrates between 20 and 50 grams but do not need to monitor their consumption.

Pamela Nisevich Bede, nutritionist with Abbott & # 39; s ZonePerfect. "The lazy keto is open to more interpretations, allowing the individual to eliminate careful tracking of all macros and simply monitor the intake of carbohydrates." The weak nature of the lazy keto can mean that you will never reach a ketosis state, but that does not mean it is totally useless , according to Kris Sollid, a registered dietitian at Nutrition Communications at the International Food Information Council Foundation. "Some people may benefit, perhaps not tracking food intake releases mental energy that is positively aimed at other health and life goals," she says. "Others may need more discipline and find that careful tracking of food choices helps them remain focused." Although the lazy keto does not require counting of calories and macros, Bede advises those who follow the trend of lazy keto to make sure they get enough protein in their diet. She says that if you do not track your macros and eat enough fat, your body will start using your muscles for fuel, which is something you do not want.

While there are still some questions about whether keto diet is healthy or unsustainable because of its high fat content, Sollid suggests that you stick to the diet that is best for you instead of following the latest trend.

"The lazy keto is just a practical calorie control mechanism known as the latest hack to live to achieve ketosis," said Solid. "The truth is that the best diet for permanent weight loss is very small and the ratio of macro-nutrients is what you can stick to in the long run. "
