Willow Smith sent a strong message to Father Will Smith when she shaved her head during her Whip My Hair tour. In a 2020 interview, Will explained that he hadn’t actually heard of his daughter’s unhappiness from being on tour until she grabbed his attention by cutting her hair.
Will Smith had energy that “burned my family”
During his participation in HBO Sport’s The store is continuousWill discussed how he moved through his life with the very rigid mentality he learned as a child.
“And, you know, for a good 15 years of my life, I just burned my family with that energy,” Will said. “Because part of what I wanted was not just me – I wanted my children to do this, I needed my wife to do this, and my family was just unhappy.”
It was Willow who made it very clear that he had to put an end to this way of thinking. “Willow hit me hard,” he explained.
“So she’s 9 years old, with a top 10 singles … and before that only Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder did it at that age,” said Will. He believed he was winning the parenting game based on her success, so when she told him, “Dad, I’m ready to go home,” after opening for Justin Bieber in Dublin, he was confused.
“I was like, ‘No, honey, you can’t go home, you have to finish the tour. “She’s like, ‘Yes, Dad, I’m done,'” he said.
“But you can’t finish … you promised Mr. Jay-Z you would do the 30 days,” Will continued. And she was like, “No, Dad, You promised Mr. Jay-Z. “
Will Smith learned a huge lesson from Willow
Will was blinded by his child’s success and could not understand why she would want to distance himself from him, as his professional aspirations always made him strive to be number one.
He said that the moment Willow shaved his head that night, it became very clear to him.
“She came down this morning and shaved her bald head … in the middle of her lap,” Whip my Hair, “Will explained. “Yo man, I was like ‘Wow! “And she taught me such a valuable lesson.”
“I was like, ‘Honey, I get it.’ We can go home, “he said.

Jada Pinkett Smith also understood the meaning
During the October 13 episode of Red table, Jada Pinkett Smith and guests discussed the mother’s disgraceful experience, and the actor said when Willow shaved his head, “there was a firestorm.”
However, according to Jada, none of the criticism mattered because of what she witnessed.
“When people are like ‘I can’t believe you shaved Willow’s head,’ if they could see the expression of this child’s freedom watching her hair fall to the ground,” Jada explained.
Seeing his daughter’s reaction to this empowering moment definitely calmed the outside control.
“So as a mother, I look at it, experiencing it with her, there’s nothing anyone can tell me to tell me it’s wrong,” Jada explained. “Not a single person, because I was there, I looked at her, I saw her face, I knew the journey we took with her to get there. So it didn’t matter what anyone said. “
