HUSTON – Houston and Harris County will open a mass vaccination site Tuesday at NRG Park with the help of FEMA.
The site is expected to vaccinate 6,000 people each day for seven days a week for the next three weeks. They will then switch to a second dose for another three weeks.
FEMA will bear 100% of the staff and equipment costs.
“This site marks the biggest effort so far to vaccinate our community,”
Both the city’s and the county’s health departments said they prioritized vaccinating residents in high-risk zip codes, along with the elderly and those with serious health problems.
“By focusing on these high-risk postal codes, we will be able to achieve this capital,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner.

The high-risk postal codes are:
If you do not reside in any of these zip codes, you are still entitled to be vaccinated if you fall into one of the following categories:
- People aged 65 and over who live in high-risk postal codes
- People aged 65 and over
- People aged 60-64 with a basic medical condition who live in high-risk postal codes
- People aged 60-64 with basic medical conditions

They will contact those who are already on the waiting list in the health department to arrange a meeting on the spot.
There are currently more than 70,000 people on Houston’s waiting list and more than 328,000 on Harris County’s waiting list.
The site is for appointments only and people with appointments must arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before their scheduled slot. People without reservations will be rejected.
The FEMA website will be open from 8:00 to 18:00 every day, starting on Wednesday.
Those aged 65 and over and people 60 and older with chronic health conditions can still register for an appointment through the Houston Health Agency, Aging Administration at 832-393-4301. Leave a voicemail with your name and phone number and your call will be returned.
